Top Environmental Issues in the Upcoming Comox Valley Local Elections

The Comox Valley Conservation Strategy has come up with this list of issues to act as a springboard for discussion going into the November 19th municipal elections. The Primer also offers some questions that can be asked of our local candidates at the All Candidates Meetings to be held in each community as follows: Comox – 7pm, November 3 at the Comox Recreation Centre (hosted by the Comox Town Residents Association); Courtenay – 7pm on November 7th at the Florence Filberg Centre (hosted by the Chamber of Commerce).

Be sure to GET OUT AND VOTE on November 19th!

    Hi,

I live in area B,CVRD, and unfortunately can’t vote, but your questions are relevant, although complex.

In the past 3 years, it’s our observation that the 3 area CVRD directors Gillis, Grieves,Joliffe have started to adress some of the issue’s raised, but there is not a unified voice for the Comox valley,on many of your issues raised.

For example ,the water metering approach to Infrasture preservation through water conservation is not supported by all Local governments or counsellors.

It is very disappointing that none of our local governments have been involved in the Regional hospital issue and are leaving all the decisons to VIHA. This is major infrasture decision, in my view, affecting future services.

The loss of green space is concern for our area, partularly as much of the development has large paved parking lots which create storm water surges, while reducing the natural replenishing of the aquafers. Each municipality/administration looks after their own internal interests rather than considering the overall benefits and impacts.

So where do the indivual candidates stand on working together for the best interests of the Comox Valley? This seems to be the most relevant question to all candidates.

    regards

A large percentage of of what you point out is anngsishitoly precise and it makes me wonder the reason why I had not looked at this in this light previously. This article really did turn the light on for me as far as this specific subject goes. But there is actually 1 position I am not really too comfy with so while I make an effort to reconcile that with the actual central idea of the issue, let me observe just what the rest of your visitors have to point out.Well done.
